DNA for Family History

We are a small group that get together in zoom meetings. We work together to discover our family histories and share tips on using various tools including Ancestry, GEDmatch, BanyanDNA, MyHeritage, and FTDNA.

Your DNA can reveal your ethnic mix and ancestors you never knew you had—places and people deep in your past where records can't always take you.

Ancestry has commenced the UK roll-out of increasing its coloured dots to 64 – with the ability to add numbers and icons to the dots (which are now ‘rounded’ squares rather than circular dots).  This will enable us to cluster our DNA matches into more refined family groups for easier identification of where our matches sit on our family tree.

Hopefully, Ancestry’s new DNA tool – ProTools – will also be rolled out in the UK this summer, although this will cost extra. Exciting times ahead!  Jenny Towey
