Our group meets on Friday mornings for 80 minutes about twice a month on Zoom. This allows you to be able to enjoy visits to places all over the world from the comfort of your own armchair. If you would like to join us please contact me. For anyone unfamiliar with zoom we can arrange to guide you through using it, it is very simple once you have been shown.

Since our last report in the spring our group has been on a wonderful cruise in Norway. It brought back a number of happy memories for many members of times they had spent visiting this beautiful country- two of them only a few weeks before. We were enveloped by the majestic Fjords as we travelled along them.

Visits from the ship included two Gondola rides for panoramic views, a “Golden Train” journey, a city walking tour of Bergen followed by a trip up to the fløibanen funicular, a morning kayaking in the Fjord and a bus trip to view a glacier.

We stopped on the way back at the Shetland Islands and did a walking tour of Lerwick. This was of particular interest to Ann Cleeves mystery crime fans as we visited many sites like Jimmy Perez’s house.

Later we visited Northumberland to visit many outstanding castles such as Bamburgh and Alnwick where so many films and TV programmes have been set.

We went on a boat ride to The Farne Islands where we saw videos and a wide range of photos of the outstanding birds that frequent our shores in this area. The highlight of the visit was a visit to Holy Island, Lindisfarne where we learnt about the history of the National Trust Castle and the monastery.

The final trip was to Berwick upon Tweed- a town that has changed hands between England and Scotland thirteen times and a holiday favourite of painter LS Lowry. It is a town of three very impressive bridges all next to each other but from very different eras.

New members are always welcome to our zoom meetings that take place on Friday mornings from 10am to 11. 30 am about twice a month, excluding when I am abroad creating new talks. If you would like to see a sample of photos from previous talks as well as those to be given (in chronological order) then you could click on the link and select as many albums as you wish. https://www.flickr.com/photos/132845169@N02/albums.
