CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
This is my last report for inclusion in the Newsletter as I will have to stand down at the AGM on 3rd October after completing nine years as a committee member. Our new Constitution which we adopted at last year’s AGM limits the term a member can serve on the Committee to nine years, so my time has regrettably come to an end.
I hope to see most of you at the AGM which will commence at 2.00pm at the United Reformed Church on 3rd October - where we shall be electing a new Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. In fact, all Committee Members have to be elected or re-elected - as the case may be - at the AGM, so it is important that enough members attend to make the meeting quorate.
Role descriptions for the Committee Officers, Chair, Vicechair, Secretary and Treasurer are available on our website for those members who may be considering taking an active part in the management of the u3a.
A warm welcome is extended to those who have joined our u3a during my time as Chairman. I would like to thank all those members who have supported me throughout my time on the Committee. I will continue to take an active role in the u3a as Group Leader for the Folk Dancing, Mahjong and Photography Groups.
Our u3a continues to flourish and we have approaching 1,000 members. I would like to thank all the Group Leaders and Trip Organisers who make our u3a what it is. Any new members who have an idea for an interest Group should contact our Groups Coordinator, Jenny Schofield, who will be happy to give them advice and guidance. Once again thank you for your support it has been a pleasure to serve you all.
Committee decisions, at our recent Committee meeting it was agreed that:-
The Last Coffee morning for this year will be 16th December and the first one for next year will be 6th January 2026
Members should note that the u3a Insurance only covers up to a maximum of 10 day trips a year (and does not include insurance for holidays). That means that no one should go ahead with any coach bookings before consulting Jenny Schofield the Groups Co-ordinator
Future Dates: - The u3a Christmas Carol Service will be held on 9th December 2025
