The Social and Economic History Group continues to flourish.

Over twenty members meet regularly, fortnightly, on Tuesday mornings at Weston Golf Club when we explore the everyday lives of ordinary men and women at various periods over our English past. We don’t talk about kings or queens and we don’t talk about battles or famous men and women. Instead we concentrate on how these ordinary people faced the difficulties in their everyday lives and the factors which influenced them in earning a living and coping with the changing world around them. We have spent recent weeks looking at life in Anglo Saxon England and we shall move on to look at the coming of the Normans and the changes they brought.

We meet at the golf club in very pleasant surroundings and coffee is available. Members of the Group are not asked to speak or to prepare talks but only to share an interest in historical topics with others of a like mind in a very friendly atmosphere .
