Our Earth science group looks at all fields of natural science related to the planet Earth. We usually choose a topic to research for the next month but members are free to contribute anything they find interesting. A few examples of a theme could be:- "A geological period" "Ice ages" "Minerals and Metals" "Wind and Erosion" "The nitrogen cycle." A recent theme was "European Mountains" The list is of course endless, we often consider our local environment and geology, none of us are scientists but have a great interest and love of the natural universe.
Our last outing was to the Lime Kiln at the boatyard in Uphill. We walked through the quarry then up and over the limestone outcrop of Uphill. We had an inspection of the Lime Kiln and considered the production of Quicklime and its uses. We then finished off with drinks and snacks from the cafe, a lovely morning in Weston.
