Art Group

Status:Active, not currently accepting new members
Leader:
Brenda Pope
Group email: Art group
When: Weekly on Wednesday mornings
Venue: Worle Community Centre

This art group has about 25 members and meets on Wednesday mornings at Worle Community Centre. The group is led by Brenda Pope who is a retired art teacher and provides the group members with guidance and inspiration based on her many years experience.

A small weekly fee is paid to cover the hall hire costs and there is a kitchen in the hall for people to make teas and coffees and toilets on site. Parking is limited and can be difficult to find in adjoining streets.

The group is very friendly and meets about 35 times a year with breaks coinciding with Xmas, Easter and summer holidays. We have at least two off site socials a year and an occasional ‘en plein air’ painting session in somewhere like Sand Bay. Over the past few years we have held a group art show in the hall, and enjoyed a demonstration painting session by professional artist Alex Kelly.

Brenda shares her extensive knowledge of painting in acrylic, watercolour, oils, inks, pencil and pastels. There are occasional structured sessions around projects focussing on particular styles or artists - albeit participation in projects is always optional and everyone is able to ‘do their own thing’ and work at their own pace. Much is learnt from informally discussing each other’s work over a nice slice of homemade cake provided by one of the group members !

Please note that the group is currently full with a waiting list. If you require any further information please e mail Jo Webster who is one of the group admin team.
