The first visit will be to the county town of Monmouth.  It possesses the only remaining fortified river bridge with a gate tower in Britain, possibly dating from 1272.  You can also walk by the River Monnow and get lunch in of the many shops in the main street nearby.

In the afternoon we travel down the Wye Valley to Tintern.  This beautiful area has been celebrated by poets and painters ; Wordsworth and Turner among others, and you will be able to see some of its splendours from the coach.

On arrival in Tintern we have a visit to the abbey, founded by the Cistercian order of monks in 1131.  The picturesque  remains are set in a beautiful part of the valley, right by the River Wye.  Restoration work is taking place and so certain areas may be closed.  There is an cafe/inn nearby for refreshments.  We hope to leave Tintern at 4 pm.

The cost for this trip is £19, which includes the coach and driver’s tip. Entry to the Abbey is free.  We leave Locking Rd Car Park at 9 am, calling at Farm Foods, Esso Garage (formerly BP Garage) and the old Homebase stop.
